The first time I smelled durian at a grocery store I was so concerned. I thought they had a natural gas leak. I reported it to the manager. Super concerned style. Turns out I huffed my first durian. I was both embarrassed and distressed

Must be frozen because you don’t have to put your nose right up on it just to know it’s Durian if it was fresh.

Durian taste depends on if your sense of smell is sensitive to it. If it's not like me then it tastes like a smooth creamy ice cream when chilled (it tastes better chilled).

in basic essence best way to compare as the taste of durian when it smells / taste bad is the same as how cilantro taste like soap to others.

I tried it for first time in Thailand but I kept hearing it nasty so I was nervous when trying it. And tasted close to mango custard. Everyone has different experience with it.

Good, ripe durian has a slightly creamy fruity flavor like a rich gelato. But yes, smells like hot fresh garbage or roadkill. 😅

As someone who grew up with the smell of durian bc my parents loved it, it does in fact, REEK. the recoil and gag is not an exaggeration for someone smelling it for the first time 😂
