Straight Leg Deadlift vs. Romanian Deadlift 🍑🔥 Same movement pattern, but a few small adjustments can change how the exercise feels and which muscles do more of the work! If you’re training for stronger glutes and hamstrings, understanding the difference can help you get more out of every rep. 🍑 ROMANIAN DEADLIFT (RDL) The RDL is one of my favorite exercises for building glutes and hamstrings. ✔️ Keep a slight bend in your knees throughout the movement. ✔️ Push your hips backward as you lower the weights. ✔️ Keep the dumbbells close to your legs. ✔️ Lower until you feel a good stretch in your hamstrings without rounding your back. ✔️ Drive through your feet and extend your hips to stand tall. Main muscles: Glutes + hamstrings, with your back and core helping stabilize. 🔥 STRAIGHT LEG DEADLIFT (SLDL) This variation generally uses straighter knees, which can create a stronger hamstring stretch. ✔️ Keep your knees soft, not aggressively locked. ✔️ Hinge at your hips rather than bending through your lower back. ✔️ Maintain a neutral spine. ✔️ Control the lowering phase. ✔️ Only lower as far as your mobility allows while maintaining good form. Main muscles: Hamstrings + glutes, with spinal erectors assisting. 💡 SO WHICH ONE IS BETTER? Neither is automatically better! Both exercises train your posterior chain, and both can help build stronger glutes and hamstrings. The biggest difference is knee position and how you perform the hip hinge. RDLs often feel more comfortable for beginners, while straighter-leg variations can place a greater stretch demand on the hamstrings. And remember: you don’t need to feel an exercise in one specific muscle for it to be effective. 📲 Workit App helps you follow structured workouts, track your fitness progress, and stay consistent with your strength-training goals. #RomanianDeadlift #GluteWorkout #HamstringWorkout #StrengthTraining #WorkitApp
