@therecount: The teens are taking over. 19-year-old Democrat Sebastian Matta looks set to beat out Republican Jeff Dial in the race for Maricopa County, Arizona Clerk of the Superior Court. Matta, a sophomore at Arizona State University, will oversee the clerk’s office in the nation’s fourth-largest county. Dial has conceded the race, as Matta leads by nearly 7 percentage points. Matta will soon have nearly 700 employees reporting to him and be responsible for maintaining official court records and managing the county court system’s financial operations. He ran on allowing probate cases — which deal with wills and estates — to be filed electronically, and improving access to court services for people who speak languages other than English. He graduated from high school in 2025, and is currently studying philosophy of law, politics, and morality. Rather than leave ASU, Matta plans to finish his degree while serving as clerk, taking his remaining classes online instead of in person. #2026midterms #teenager #arizona #election #democrat
