@accountabilitycalling: ...When the PSD responds with denial, delays, and character assassination, it inflicts a secondary trauma. This phenomenon is known in psychological and legal literature as secondary victimization or institutional betrayal. Mechanics of Betrayal Against the Public PSDs possess vast state resources, legal mechanisms, and investigative powers. When deployed against a civilian complainant, these tools create an impossible power imbalance: • Information Asymmetry & Evidence Suppression: The police control the evidence (CCTV, body-worn video, pocket notebooks, custody logs). PSDs have been found to withhold, delay, or claim the "accidental loss" of this vital footage, leaving the civilian unable to prove their case. • Pathologising the Victim: If a civilian is understandably angry, traumatised, or distressed by police misconduct, the PSD will often use that emotional state to discredit them. Their trauma is reframed as "aggression," "unreliability," or "mental instability." • The Bureaucratic War of Attrition: PSD investigations routinely drag on for years. This is often a deliberate or systemic strategy to exhaust the complainant's mental health, financial resources, and resolve, forcing them to drop the matter. • Weaponising the Criminal Justice System: A civilian who pushes too hard may find themselves facing counter-allegations. PSDs can threaten or initiate prosecutions against the complainant for "wasting police time," "perverting the course of justice," or minor offences allegedly committed during the initial incident. The Psychological Impact: The "Second Assault" For a member of the public, the betrayal by the institution is often reported as more psychologically damaging than the original officer misconduct. When a citizen realizes that the entire apparatus of law and order is actively working to distort the truth, protect a predator, and destroy their credibility, it shatters their sense of safety in society. It results in profound cynicism, complex PTSD, and a total alienation from the state structures meant to protect them.

nothing is fair when they are also police. there was a doctor I met, he was reaching his own case and going to go to court. he told me.
