This isn’t a stupid question!!! Every homeowner goes through this at some point! The plant itself just gets pulled out and thrown in a green recycling bin if you have like a garden waste bin. Sometimes you can bring that somewhere if you don’t have one. if not regular trash bin is fine. The soil is the actual issue. If it’s normal and smells normal nothing is wrong with it, put it in your yard no issues. If it’s moldy or rotten that goes in the trash. However if there is fungus or if the plants had a disease or there are ant pests in it that needs to be bagged and sealed up and then put into the trash.
