That's why men are putting on women traditional wardrobe and dancing Yei Bi Chei as a female.

when you really analyze it, colonization is really just the violent removal of matriarchal cultures from indigenous people's and forcing patriarchy in its place. I am not sure if it was 'leaked' into our culture or if the removal of matriarchal culture was always the end goal.

Navajo tradition is based on a matrilineal society. This shouldn’t be looked at negatively. I’m Navajo, feels like we are going back to the old ways. Let the women lead.

I think it’s just that men did not want a women leader and so they added that part in into the stories.

My elders told the original creation story you shared, I’ve never heard of the version with an affair. As soon as you mentioned that, it brought to mind the christian fable about Eve being the culprit in their religion & to this day christians use that belief to leash women in blame, guilt & submission. When our people returned from Hwéeldi the US govt didn’t want or believe in women leaders so they chose which Diné men they wanted to be leaders. This isn’t to entirely undermine how our naat’áaniis led the people but it’s important that we acknowledge that In that process they (US) also learned which men could be comprised with benefits like alcohol & multiple wives. My late-elders also told stories of our matriarchy long before this man-made change. Women create life, nurture life, raise the children, teach the children, manage the home, feed the family, care for the family when they’re sick, delegate tasks & duties. There’s a reason our clans are comprised of maternal lineages & is how every one of us identifies ourselves to each other & the Holy Ones. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge & having this much needed conversation.

Ive heard three versions of why the men and women separated. I heard both that you mentioned and I heard one where first woman was being ungrateful and that first man only provided for them for s*x. In the second and third, I heard diyin dine punished first woman for that and now women cant be leaders jini

Boarding school era taught assimilation by mission/government school. It was a time of traditional wives with no rights. Women were property of men and didn’t have independence. Many of our elders that were forced to go to these schools learned this and still adhere to this mindset and pass it on to the next generation. GENERATIONAL TRAUMA. We must break the cycle.

I don't know all about that. I was raised to respect your mother and sisters and aunties and grandmothers and cousins. I thought this was common teaching among our Diné? My, my, my. why are some hateful of the idea of a Diné woman leading the nation? What has Boo Boo man done for the nation? his leadership is poor. 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

It’s pretty disappointing to see how many people try and use tradition in politics. And they adjust the story to fit their narrative. It gets pretty annoying. Traditionally the way I was taught is that the woman would lead us men while us men would protect the household and protect the people. they say there’s a balance in everything we do, Hózhó. And we’re assigned different roles depending on our gender as well as part of that balance. Like woman weave while the men make the upright loom. We support each other as people. And so our job now as men is to support the woman just like how it’s always been traditionally. Another part of being in balance, walking in beauty, is understanding not one person is above one another, whether they’re female or male, it’s the reason why we shake hands softly, because we are all equal. But it seems people are losing the traditional ways sadly.

I believe it's just prejudice from the man perspective that the woman leadership will be more beneficial for its constituents, we should support her going forward

I look at it from a ML perspective instead of a captialist way. I am happy that the people have hope, they are at the tip of understanding they matter. The downside is the democrats are the same as Republicans. They still harm other minorities and it's sick how democrats throw buzzwords just because they want votes. Captialism is deeply rooted in racism, classicism, misogyny, and so much more. To be free is to educated and I encourage navajos/other tribes to read history from both sides not just from American/European Imperialism

No no no no. 😂 lol. You’re not even speaking Diné first of all and your translating it’s wrong 💜 Asdzą́ą́ Nádleehé💜 means womanhood that can produce two heartbeats in one body at one time to produce the holy life itself woman born on earth is pier, and until she gets her period and she can make life and a woman can lose her period and not make life anymore. It’s the meaning of making life itself no one on our holy mother earth can produce two hearts in one breath that’s what that means. 💜Asdzą́ą́ Nádleehé💜. Not nothing with gayness what every gay people is trying to translate which they don’t even speak. Diné or even understand the ancient word of our. Diné language you really need to understand. The Diné way of life. We are earth surface dwellers that’s been made by our holy mother Earth to live in harmony to produce life itself. You think gay people will continue making life know impossible, my friend wake up.

I don't think its bad, it was more like a prophecy, when a woman becomes the leader that's when we know we have caused so much destruction and moved away from Hozho' that we need a female to balance our way of life, I love that we have our first woman president🫶🏼🩷
