Circa 2007, I was on the subway, and this old Russian grandma told me about how in Russia the government one day just randomly let emptied people’s bank accounts and kept the money for themselves. And I said “Wow, I’m so happy you’re in America now so that something like that can never happen to you again!!!” And she said “It can happen in any country at any time” I didn’t believe her, but now I’m starting to think she could be right.
