I work at a dental clinic, trust me, the bad breath from hidden food debris is way more common than people think. It's usually caused by bacteria lingering in the microscopic cracks of your teeth. I've encountered the same problem! My dentist recommended I try a toothpaste that contains only zinc citrate, and they strongly suggested the Kugig brand.

Dentist reminds: Gum only temporarily masks bad breath. You need a toothpaste containing zinc citrate and inulin to truly address the root cause of bad odor.
