How to spot when a heifer or cow is about to calve 😁 - she will start to spring(this means milk is developing in her udder) -her vulva will become swollen and floppy as her body prepares for birth - you may also notice some mucus or discharge hanging from her vulva -AND she will isolate herself from the rest of the herd to have her baby in peace NOTE: not all cattle will have an easy birth, assess her regularly to see if she’s struggling because you may need to get her into a crush and help pull the baby (if you aren’t experienced- which I’m guessing is anyone reading this description, please don’t try, call a vet instead and watch closely as you will learn why you have to assist in certain ways I.e what to do and what NOT to do. You can’t be a midwife to you herd if accidentally dislocate a calf’s shoulder trying to assist 🙃
