My name is not necessarily unique, but I’ve gotten “Jakira” my whole life instead of “Jakyra”! The letter “y” makes a long “I” sound just like how we learned in grade school, but people don’t seem to get it…even after I correct them😭

I work at a bank and I try really hard to pronounce peoples names properly or ask if Im not sure. They will always say “you can call me this” and I just respond, I would really love to call you the name you genuinely want to be called. Also every once in a while I have people ask me how to pronounce my name which surprises me 🤷🏼♀️
