@cbsla: The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is nearing completion, with heavy machinery working to create the landscape needed to accommodate the animals. The National Park Service says they have already documented the first animal using the crossing on October 28, 2026. A coyote was seen on one of the fixed remote wildlife cameras. The massive crossing will reconnect wildlife habitats in the Santa Monica Mountains with the Simi Hills to the north, providing animals a route across a freeway that carries more than 300,000 vehicles a day.
I view this as giving them back their safe passage. They had it then we built the highway. Yes it costs money. And yes that’s ok. It also created jobs. Preserving habitat and wildlife is an important part of the natural ecosystem

I wish people weren’t angry about this and the money spent. We took so much away from the wild life. This is our way of giving back. Giving them a chance so they don’t have to play Frogger on the 101

People who are upset about this- the world doesn’t revolve around humans. This is the least we could do tbh. And if you mention the homeless- not every dollar available needs to be designated to that. This saves lives. Humans and animals.

for people who criticize the value of this, broaden your perspective. this is great for humans not just animals. now more ways for them to have their habitat and avoid the roadway which can prevent human vehicle accidents and even fatal crashes in the long run that was due to swerving with an animal coming out of nowhere. maybe even slightly impact traffic bc less accidents means less lane closures. we can let the animals think it’s for them, but it’s for the greater good of all living creatures.

Coyote appears in creation and transformation stories.
Depending on the nation and story, he may:
Help create the world.
Bring fire to humanity.
Help establish the natural order.
Introduce things that have both beneficial and harmful consequences. Ah ho 🪶
