Florida is the model for the future of the Republican Party. Last night Democrats swept the House and the Senate in a historic blue wave. And in Florida, Republicans elected Byron Donalds, the first Black Republican governor in American history. A win like that in a year this bad for Republicans comes from eight years of groundwork. Due to the most effective governor this generation has ever seen.

When Ron DeSantis took office in 2019, Florida was the ultimate swing state. He won his first race by about thirty thousand votes. Then he governed. He kept Florida open when much of the country shut down, and the state became a destination for families leaving high-tax states behind. Four years later he won reelection by nineteen points and carried Miami-Dade, a county Republicans hadn’t won for governor in twenty years. Today Republicans hold a voter registration edge of about one and a half million. 
And the bench behind him runs deep.
 Donalds. Uthmeier. Moody.
Luna. 
Even the Secretary of State and eventual favorite for the 2028 nomination, Marco Rubio is a Florida product. 
Nationally, Republicans spent this year defending a war in Iran while gas prices climbed. Florida Republicans spent it talking about property taxes, insurance costs, and what families pay to live here. Florida was mostly insulated from the blue wave as a result. 
If Republicans want to win back Washington, the blueprint has been sitting in Tallahassee this whole time.
