@youngbarbersteve_: Speaking at a middle school for the first time was nerve wracking, but no matter what, we still did our thang! 🙏🏽 Being around kids that age reminded me of the times when my own mother struggled to afford haircuts for us pushing me to learn. Seeing their enthusiasm, curiosity, and gratitude for simply having me there meant more than they probably realized. Our conversation revolved around a message I carry everywhere I go. My Story, My Hood, My Dream. We asked some difficult questions. What does the word “hood” really mean? Why is it so often viewed in a derogatory way? What does it mean to serve others while still showing up for yourself? How does someone end up experiencing homelessness? Questions that even some of us adults might struggle to answer. I wanted them to understand that we all come from somewhere. Different environments, circumstances, and struggles, but where we come from doesn’t have to determine where we’re going. More than anything, I was grateful to be there for Career Day, sharing my love for barbering and the impact it has allowed me to make beyond the chair. As we approach 2027, I’m excited to keep striving and sharing a testimony I once felt ashamed of. To any educators or program coordinators, I’d love the opportunity to speak with your students. Thank you, La Puente Elementary School, for allowing me to plant a few seeds. Much love and blessings from your boy Chikágo 🏁🏆💯
