@atta_ur: 🚨 FIREWORKS DISORDER AND COMMUNITY UPDATE Many residents will have seen, heard, or unfortunately witnessed the scenes that unfolded in the Holy Trinity area of St. Peter’s ward this evening. At times, it literally felt like a war zone. I was on the ground from approximately 8pm until 11:30pm, supporting residents and monitoring the situation as it developed. It was heartbreaking to witness the level of disorder and the impact it had on our community. Thankfully, residents who were out and about remained safe. I am grateful that Oggie Ogden, local residents, and I came through the evening safely despite a number of near misses, including fireworks being deliberately fired in our direction. As I have always said, when it comes to our community, politics must be put aside. In that spirit, I contacted Cllrs Bowerman and Khan to share an update on the situation and ensure communication remained open. Over recent weeks, fellow ward councillors and I have attended meetings with GMP and Tameside Council officers regarding this ongoing issue, which unfortunately arises every year. While the disorder witnessed this evening was completely unacceptable, it is important to recognise that the incidents this year were not on the scale seen in some previous years. That said, one incident is one too many, and there is clearly still a lot more work to be done. I remain committed to working with residents, GMP, Tameside Council, and partner agencies to help bring an end to this cycle of disruption and danger. Partnership working will continue, and I will keep pushing for the action needed to make our communities safer. My thoughts are with everyone affected this evening. More updates will follow. #community #safety #keepsafe #bonfirenight
