I HATE the fact that in the original, Tracy was always loudly advocating for ending segregation. she was intelligent and assertive and bratty. in the musical, they make her this sweet, innocent "aw shucks" type that doesn't even understand that racism exists. they took all the teeth out of the character. that's why her using their dancing is less of a protest and more of appropriation. tracy's size actually meant something (she was othered her whole life so learned empathy early, vs she was sad because the mean girl teased her).

You know what we’re watching this with adult eyes I mean Tracy always irritated me when she did that but now did you broke it down? I could definitely see it very clearly and I also I agree Tracy in the OG 80s hairspray was way better character.
