@cue.the.popcorn: Goldie Hawn’s Hilarious Reality Check in Private Benjamin (1980). Judy Benjamin thought she was signing up for condos, private rooms and a completely different kind of Army. Instead, she gets a rude awakening! In the 1980 comedy Private Benjamin, Goldie Hawn plays a sheltered, newly widowed woman who impulsively enlists in the U.S. Army, only to discover that military life is nothing like what she was promised. Her complaints don’t go over particularly well with the no-nonsense Captain Doreen Lewis, played brilliantly by Eileen Brennan. Directed by Howard Zieff, Private Benjamin also stars Armand Assante, Robert Webber and Sam Wanamaker. The film received three Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Goldie Hawn, Best Supporting Actress for Eileen Brennan and Best Original Screenplay. #privatebenjamin #goldiehawn #eileenbrennan #80smovies #comedies
