@hopeandpowerstrategies: Standing in victory with our former boss, Xavier @Becerraforgovernor, as he made history this week, will forever be a treasured moment. He'll be California's first Latino governor in 151 years. XB (as we staff call him), gave me my first DC job out of grad school, as a legislative assistant. I stayed with him for six years as he rose into House Democratic leadership. Working in his office gave me a front-row view of what real leadership looks like. He's smart, ethical, surround himself with a great team and can be trusted to do the right thing. He leads with heart and is 100% rooted in family and community. Years later, my brother served in his front office when he was Health and Human Services Secretary for President Biden. XB and his team were always there as wonderful partners supporting the work I led through the White House Hispanic Initiative. So my brother and I jumped at the opportunity to hop on a plane to Sacramento for his election night party. Watching him, his wife, and his daughters shine on election night was truly special. The song "We are family" was an anthem for the event -- a perfect representation of his love for his wife and daughters, and of the family created by all who've been around him. I loved seeing so many Team XB alumni and friends I've worked with over the years who came out to celebrate. And I can't wait to see the good trouble Governor Becerra will get into as he works to help all Californians and, in doing so, the rest of the nation. Congratulations to XB, his family, and all the staff, volunteers, and donors who made this victory and a #BecerraEra possible.
