How many of you have been misdiagnosed with a condition? It's a struggle many people go through. I experienced this with both of my children. My older son was misdiagnosed when he was little. I took him to the doctor, explaining I believed he had asthma. The doctor checked him and said he was fine. Months later, my son had an asthma attack and had to be rushed to the hospital when he was just 1 year old. It was a serious nightmare, but thankfully I knew what to do. He was admitted to the hospital for a week. After he was discharged, I went back to that doctor and told them, "I told you my child was struggling to breathe. This is the last time my son will be in this office." I explained my concerns, and if they weren't going to take it seriously, I wouldn't bring my child there again. At that time, I was a young mother, but I was educated on many medical conditions. Now, about my youngest son. I already knew my son had autism and ADHD. I took him to the doctor for speech services when he was 1 year old and asked for an evaluation for his behavior since he wasn't talking or trying. He wasn't doing the things a child his age should be doing. At 2 years old, he saw a psychologist who said he was delayed. This was the last appointment we had there. We then moved back to my home state when he was 4. I took him to a doctor there for an evaluation, and they only said he had ADHD. Even though he wouldn't eat certain foods and still wasn't speaking, he still wasn't getting the services he needed. We moved back to the state where I live now, and his behavior was getting worse. I talked to his pediatrician to get him services and another autism evaluation. I sent him to a behavioral health specialist. This is when I decided to put him on medication. I asked them to get him another evaluation, and the behavioral specialist saw everything I did as a mom. When my son was 9 years old, he finally received another evaluation and was diagnosed with autism level 3. I already knew exactly what they were going to say. It's sad that both a mama and her child had to go through all of this. #Misdiagnosis #ParentingStruggles #AutismAwareness #Asthma
