I don’t understand something. There were probably thousands of airplanes in the sky at any given time, and they probably don’t have a sound signature that is unique to each and one of them, so how would it figure out which airplane is near you?

So the new goal of AI videos will be to fake the plane audio signatures 😅🤦♂️

Nate can you talk about the US Elections effect on Ai going forward. I’m very optimistic for the ethically regulated use and community benefits. For example as massive numbers of jobs are replaced we will have to do UBI, it’s practically inevitable to keep consumers…consuming.

The Inference AI :
The Doppler Geist detail that stuck with me is that AI generated video does not carry the acoustic signature, so airplane sound becomes an accidental proof a clip is real. That flips the usual worry. Instead of AI faking a location, it is real background sound that gives the location away. I am curious whether creators will start scrubbing ambient audio the way they already blur license plates.

Funny I was just talking to AI about geolocating from sounds instead of images. The military is even funding this research. Would be fun side project for any engineers out there.

we were relatively safe in the tonnage of data before, now there's AI. We all need to change as fast as AI is progressing. AIs real usage is sorting our data.

This is the basic premise that was used to locate Sadam Hussien. Much more refined today obviously. Run false doppler signal data in your background and their calculations fail.

I live, more or less, between 3 airports. The huge international airport is roughly 6 miles away. With all the traffic noise, I doubt you could hear it in any of my videos. (I don’t even hear the planes at night from my bedroom.) The very small commercial airport nearby rarely has any flights at all, and the jets from the Air Force base fly directly overhead so that I never record while they’re flying. But the thing I’m wondering: military flights don’t normally have their transponder data showing on apps like FlightRadar, so I wonder if the software can determine based on military data?

this is the bad use case for it. but I've seen research papers on the good use case which is in hospitals where all of the acoustic data can be analyzed for all kinds of things about checking on your patients, especially elderly people
