@wickedwomenauthor: @SARAH • DAYDREAMER You don’t have to be a fan of what your student is learning in history to acknowledge that historical empathy, contextualization, and pattern recognition are the foundational building blocks of a well-rounded education and an intelligent upbringing. As a historian and author who has worked in the classroom in multiple capacities, I’m disheartened by the belief that if a specific historical topic isn’t appealing to your child, then it isn’t deserving of being taught. As someone who adores history, I can’t imagine not learning about topics simply because poorly educated parents find it irrelevant. • #education#teachersrelate#teachingin2026#teachertok

as a former high school social studies teacher, the kids would get pissed off when I would directly track modern events straight back to things that happened hundreds of years ago. it's like dominoes. seeing the final domino fall doesn't tell you the whole story.

It’s probably for a class called ‘World History’. France and Spain are part of the world. We study history so we don’t repeat it

This is crazy 😅. As a millennial with a boomer mom, she would have just been mad at me and I would have been in trouble for having the audacity. Knowledge in general is valuable.

But also, if you teach current events because “we have enough shit going on” as she says, she will get mad that you brought politics into schools.

One of my complaints regarding my own high school education in the late 80s was that "history" stopped after World War II. I learned literally nothing about the Korean war, Vietnam war, civil rights era.
