Sometimes the best painting spots are the ones you never planned! 🎨🍂 Tom and I took the day to explore Turkey Run State Park, and on our way home, we decided to follow one of Indiana’s beautiful covered bridge trails. That little adventure led us to the tiny town of Waveland, Indiana, where we found a memorial bench and decided to sit for a while. Tom sat beside me while I pulled out my sketchbook and started painting this beautiful old building. ❤️ No pencil sketch. No overthinking. Just my Sailor Fude de Mannen 40° nib filled with Platinum Carbon Black ink, straight onto the paper. I wanted to capture the character of this building as quickly as possible, without getting caught up in every little detail. That's one of the things I love most about urban sketching. You don't have to paint everything you see. You get to decide what matters! I used my handmade watercolor sketchbook, my Portable Painter Micro filled with Daniel Smith watercolors, and of course, my Trailside Studio sketchboard, designed and made by my talented husband, Tom. It was a quick little painting, but what a wonderful memory to capture in my sketchbook. And the best part?
