A 2024 study published in The Journal of Sex Research found that men who held sexist beliefs about women reported higher levels of infidelity. And that included both openly negative beliefs about women AND seemingly positive beliefs about women belonging in traditional roles. Researchers also found that the importance men placed on power in their relationships helped explain this connection. When you believe women owe you sex, attention, caretaking, or emotional labor, it’s easier to justify looking elsewhere when those expectations aren’t met. And women, please stop assuming you’re the exception to how a man views other women. If he doesn’t respect women as equals, being his wife doesn’t magically change that.
