@jeff63434: Frances Bavier will always be Aunt Bee to me, but she had quite a career before she ever stepped foot in Mayberry. Born December 14, 1902, Frances studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and spent many years on the stage, including Broadway. She also appeared in movies and television before landing the role that would make her a familiar face in homes across America. In 1960, she became Aunt Bee on The Andy Griffith Show. She was the one who helped make Andy and Opie's house feel like a real home. She cooked, cleaned, worried about everyone, gave advice, and sometimes got herself into a little trouble along the way. She could be stubborn and sensitive, but underneath it all, you knew how much she loved her family. Frances played Aunt Bee throughout all eight seasons of The Andy Griffith Show and continued the character on Mayberry R.F.D. Her performance earned her an Emmy Award in 1967. After retiring from acting, Frances left Hollywood behind and moved to Siler City, North Carolina. She lived there until her death on December 6, 1989, at the age of 86. Frances Bavier played many characters during her long career, but Aunt Bee was the one we took into our hearts. Mayberry just wouldn't have felt like home without her.
