@cathleen.keena: 3 months postpartum, and it’s safe to say this has been a kind of hard i’ve never experienced. truthfully, i’ve felt guilty sharing my challenges as a mom after IVF because of the battle it took to get here. but i’m learning that being grateful doesn’t mean i can’t be honest about how hard this has been. our breastfeeding journey didn’t turn out the way i expected, but i’m so proud of myself for making it 3 months. i gave it everything i could, physically and mentally, and i’m making peace with that chapter ending. reminding myself daily that Nora needs a present, healthy mom, and taking care of myself is taking care of her. whatever your version of hard looks like, you’re not alone. we can love our babies with everything in us and still be real about the journey. we’re learning, adjusting, and showing up every day, and that counts for so much 🤍 #postpartumjourney #postpartumlife #3monthspostpartum #firsttimemom #breastfeedingjourney

Postpartum is HARD! All moms can attest that having a baby is the biggest blessing but that doesn’t take away the hard, it just makes the hard worth it! You are doing AMAZING and I always look forward to your updates🩷🩷

Breastfeeding is so much harder than ever talked about i feel. I’m a couple weeks ahead of you with my IVF baby. I’m so happy and feel so blessed to be his mom but holy cow I’ve never felt more like a failure the first two months trying to feed him. I didn’t know people dealt with it until recently people have started talking about it

Two things can be true, this is hard and I’m so grateful! I had a hard time realizing and accepting that after what we’ve gone through to get our miracle babies. Motherhood is HARD but so rewarding! Allll the micro decisions are overwhelming! Proud of you for putting your expectations down and letting Nora lead the way! I just LOVE her name!! Proud of you, friend!

I struggled to get pregnant for 6 months and then when I did I lost twins at 9.5 weeks, and it was excruciating. I got pregnant with my miracle boy in June 2023 and he was born at 36w and was premature with jaundice, he struggled to latch and as a result his jaundice got really bad. I was pumping and combo feeding/triple feeding from pretty much from 1 week to 9.5mo when I decided to just fully switch to formula because I was pregnant and had already had 2 more miscarriages while breastfeeding, I was worried I would lose my girl so I stopped lol. I think months 1-6 were the hardest mentally using formula because I also went throughout my pregnancy thinking and saying I was going to exclusively breastfeed, 0 bottles, 0 pacifiers, whatever. my boy is 2.5 and he still likes a bottle to go to bed 😂 a bottle baby through and through. I hated myself, I was mad at my baby, I was mad at my body, I was mad that other people made breastfeeding look and sound so easy. I did almost no research on anything because I thought it would just be easy. having successfully exclusively breastfed my daughter for almost 18 months (aside from after she turned 1 she obviously started getting whole cows/goats milk regularly lol, I feel that I have to specify that because once when my daughter was 8 months old someone asked me if I was exclusively bf and I said yes, then they asked "oh so she's not eating food yet?" and I was like are you stupid 😂🫪) - your feeding journey greatly depends on your baby and how your baby responds to it. a lot of women just get lucky. it takes a lot, a LOT of work, pain, *time* to establish breastfeeding during and after feeding struggles, latching issues, stuff like that and YES biologically breast milk is best, but the best thing for a happy healthy mom and baby, for both your mental health, is whatever you need to do to feed your baby. the exclusively breastfeeding community hates the phrase "fed is best", but coming from a mom who has done formula and exclusive breast, that phrase doesn't mean the "formula is the best thing ever"!! it means the best you can do with the circumstances given to you ❤️and you, mama, are doing amazing!!!! ✨✨✨

So happy to see your face again! Mom guilt is so real - I hope you have peace going forward. You are doing everything right with the information you have/had at that time. Being a FTM, you just have to figure it out as you go. You’re doing wonderful, Cathleen!

Proud of you! My feeding journeys with the first two boys were *disasters* and it was so hard to deal with (especially after infertility and IVF). I think it’s really impressive to be able to put aside your own desires and do what’s best for your baby - that means you’re a great mom! Always here to chat 🫶🏻

Girl pp is no joke… we’re all doing amazing! How has weening been going for you? I exclusively pump and am down to 3-4x day but dread how painful it will be to start that process.

I have been on a similar timeframe to you, 8 years infertility and had our IVF baby in July. I think that for so long with infertility you are focusing so hard on the end goal of having a baby that it becomes the only thing you know and think about and then when the miracle actually does happen, we realize that we didn’t have time or energy to even really think about what it will actually be like for baby to be here. Idk if I am explaining that the correct way that i want to. Here are my cheesy thoughts that are working for me- give yourself more grace than you think you deserve, let go of any and all expectations, and live in the moment as much as possible. Sending love! 💗💗💗

So proud of you friend! Heavy on the “guilt” 🥺 we have a miracle IVF baby girl as well and one thing I learned is that it’s okay to feel all the feels and go through the emotions as they do not cancel each other out. Motherhood is hard but so many beautiful moments 🤍

Thank you for your vulnerability and courage to speak on this. I’m glad sweet Nora is doing so well. Hope you are able to be kind and gentle with yourself 🫶🏼 I planned to EBF as well (with loose expectations), but baby girl had jaundice and ended up losing a significant amount of weight. The paediatrician said “in an ideal world, BF yes… but when there are medical concerns that goes out the window.” I’m almost 3 weeks pp and am currently pumping & supplementing with formula. No longer feeling shame or guilt. 🦋

Sending hugs!! I also wanted to ebf but little man was jaundice so we had to combo feed and then discovered a lip tie. Some days my supply is good and we have a great bf day and then other days my supply is awful & he gets frustrated at the breast and I end up doing more formula that day. It bothered me so much in the beginning & still does when we have a day mostly full of formula. so I get it! I think it’s just our mom guilt and we worked so hard for them can’t one thing just be easy?! lol Also I’ve been struggling with the lack of help from family & friends? I’m home all day and very rarely do people want to visit or check in now that he’s not brand new? Makes me so sad and a little lonely. But you’re doing amazing and she’s so lucky to have you as her momma!! 🫶🏼💖

Keep thinking is this really going to matter in the long run? The answer is no she will thrive just being fed. If nursing didn’t work she is happy and healthy.
