@tatsngin: California governor Gavin Newsom commuted the death sentences of all inmates on death row. Problem is for a majority of those inmates the California Supreme Court must approve the commutation. #california #breakingnews #death #law #court
I agree with this. In undergrad I was required to argue against the DP. At the time I was pro-DP. After my research, I’m now anti-DP. Too many innocent people have been put to 💀 and they were later exonerated after that. 1 innocent person being put to 💀is too many for me.

Culperistic :
Clemency of a sentence always disregards a jury verdict. But we believe in checks and balances and the judicial check is woefully inefficient in some cases because of the restrictions on what they can overturn.
I think the governor should have that power. I do not think he used It wisely in this instance, indiscriminately commuting everyone's sentence on death row. I also think having the state supreme court oversight this particular clemency decision is a layer of oversight too much. So apparently I have very complicated thoughts on this subject.

I think he's coming at this after watching the Christa pike situation and making a power play to try for a presidential bid. which, might work... but could land him in hot water in the long run if it doesn't work long term. there ARE people in prison that didn't do the crime, we know that. as well on Dr. but it takes money to prove that case. there are also cases that need to be heard in the justice system that don't get heard because the system is corrupt. also, it costs more for an execution than life in prison.

Also, I got to say as a Lyft, who met some conservative people even here in California, nobody in California actually likes Gavin knew some guys. Don’t ever let him be your president. I promise we still only have 10 feet of fast rail, even though the budget is probably like closer to 5 billion than not now nothing‘s been done beyond that 10 feet.

He’s progressing the growth of the modern slave population is what he’s fucking doing. We can argue till we’re in the face about the death penalty itself, however, keeping someone incarcerated for life honestly rarely helps anyone involved, except whoever owns a prison and can work for money.

What is the cost to keep one prisoner in prison for life? Compared to death? I don’t know

He’s not doing this thinking that it’s going to be successful. He’s doing this to set up his presidential run. He’s also doing this to poke a hole in the pro life movement. How can you be pro-life if you are willing to allow your governing body to kill people? Pro-life is across-the-board or not at all. He knows that this is a crapshoot. It’s not about if it works or not. It’s about he did it.

Some people are worried that CA taxpayers will “pay more” towards these prisoners- but actually the DP ends up costing tax payers more…

I’m sure people aren’t gonna like what I’m about to say, but Idgaf - I think governors should have that power because, at the end of the day, our justice system is corrupt in a lot of ways, and we all know it. Just because a judge or jury makes a decision doesn’t automatically mean it’s the right one. There are people who have spent decades in prison for crimes they didn’t commit, and others who have received punishments that were way too harsh. So why should those decisions be set in stone just because they came from a courtroom? Which is exactly why governors have the power to step in. The courts aren’t perfect, judges aren’t perfect, and the system itself isn’t perfect. Its corrupt as fuckkk. If we know the system gets things wrong, then there has to be a way to correct those mistakes. Imagine if governors didn’t have that power. What happens when the courts get something wrong? Are we just supposed to accept it because a judge signed off on it? Fuckkk that. To me, that’s not justice. That’s blindly trusting a system that has already proven it can fail people. Having the power to correct those failures isn’t abusing authority. It’s holding the justice system accountable.
