The cons absolutely outweigh the pros.. so messed up and upsetting as someone so passionate about the field! I quit my full time role in March and will never work as a traditional OT again :/ here to dm

Totally agree … I started my OT program in 2017. The salary sounded good then but it has hardly changed in years. I shadowed my roommate’s mom, who was an occupational therapist before I started grad school. Her mom had bought her own house and was a single mom and put my roommate through private school growing up. You would never be able to do that now on our salary. If we were paid double the amount, I would be OK with the workload

Ive been a practicing OT for a year now and i agree :/ i went to private school in boston for undergrad and grad school which somehow ended up being the most affordable because the program gave me the most scholarships but i still cant believe how the pay off is just NOT there. Im in madison wisconsin and all the entry level roles offered me 70-75k for full time roles which i just could not wrap my head around . At my PRN job at the highest tier i get 58-63$ an hour. Its a bummer because i love what i do but hard to balance realistic work/life/pay

Totally agree! I’m an OT too and much, much happier in a nontraditional setting

Older OTs told AOTA and ACOTE that the change to a doctorate would negatively affect students and their amount of debt. It was ignored and is so upsetting to see concerns were valid

Apparently where I work at DSH-A you can be paid $7,803.00 – $9,187.00/month depending on your license. I met with a patient this week that is 50 and spoke with a word salad who needs assistance with OT to help him communicate as he struggles and needs assistance with gaining competency in order to be able to go to trial. 💜
