@ethicai_au: Canva just cut 22% of its workforce, and the way they did it should make every CEO uncomfortable. Six months’ salary minimum, healthcare continued, no equity cliff, and a fund for people starting their own thing. Nobody was locked out of their laptop at 9am. Dignity in a layoff is a budget decision, and Melanie Perkins made it. Leaders, this one’s on you. #Canva #Leadership #layoffs #ai #Ethics
Restructuring means no redundancy package for long term employees very disappointed in canva

The sheer weight of missing features on canva I find this really irritating. It’s not like they don’t have work to do.

This is the problem with capitalism- it’s not for the wider people, it’s for the small few and every profit margin is never enough

Canva did this right. It was always going to happen with AI moving in on their space.

Everyone I know is turning away from it because it so overtly pushes AI. Now that instagram flags it people don't want to be associated.

This is the choice high margins affords a company. Discounting and desperation closes this door. But a big part of reputation is being ‘a good place to be from’ and goodwill among the diaspora is valuable. My HR exec has made contact with the Canva alumn chat and I’m sure they’re not the only one.

Canva itself was a disrupter and affected other jobs and industries. So… why should anyone feel sorry for these people who did this to others already? What about all the design jobs affected by Canva slop?

But it’s not a surprise - the writing has been on the wall ever since Playground & other AI design apps entered the market
