@rickyisaan: As an Aussie living in a rural Thai village, you get to see firsthand some of the struggles local farmers face during the rice harvest. It’s not simply about growing the rice and hoping for a good yield. Once the rice has been harvested, there’s still the important job of drying it out before it can be stored or sold. And unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always cooperate! Today, the rain arrived while families around our village were drying their freshly harvested rice. Suddenly, everyone was rushing to cover their rice with tarpaulins to protect it from getting wet and delaying the drying process. A few people have asked why we don’t offer our yard for the family to dry their rice. We’re actually more than happy to! However, my brother-in-law prefers to use a concrete surface, as he felt the rice didn’t dry properly in our yard last year. It’s moments like these that remind you how much work goes into producing something we often take for granted. For many families here in Isaan, this harvest represents their food supply for the year or an important source of income. Hopefully, the rain clears up quickly and the farmers can get back to drying their rice! #ThaiVillage #RiceFarming #ThaiFarmers #VillageLife #LivingInThailand
