Rooftops scattered across the landscape, roads weaving through neighbourhoods, the Atlantic breeze brushing against my face, and the familiar sounds of Ghanaian life rising from the streets below. A city that never really stops living. And there I stood, with my arms open, eyes closed, and Hans Zimmer’s Flight playing through my AirPods. For a brief moment, the music seemed to give everything around me a different meaning. The wind felt stronger. The air felt lighter. Every note carried a feeling I couldn’t quite put into words. It was almost like being suspended between the earth and the sky. I began imagining Accra from above. The coastline stretching into the distance, the buildings becoming smaller, the roads turning into tiny lines, and the entire city slowly unfolding beneath the clouds. What a beautiful place to be alive. Sometimes I think about how extraordinary ordinary life can be. The fact that we can stand somewhere we’ve known for years, listen to a piece of music, and suddenly experience that familiar place as though we’re seeing it for the very first time. No grand occasion. No special celebration. Just a young man from Ghana, standing above a small part of the world, enjoying a moment that somehow feels bigger than the place itself. And maybe that’s what makes life beautiful. Those unexpected seconds when your imagination takes you somewhere your body hasn’t been. When a melody feels like an adventure. When the sky doesn’t seem so far away. I didn’t need to go anywhere. For those few minutes, with my eyes closed and my arms open, I felt like I could fly.
