Never use Tor on Windows. One PDF can hand over your real IP address. Here is how it happens. You are on Tor, three relays deep, no logs. A vendor sends you a PDF menu and you download it, still inside Tor. Then you open it. Windows has no idea you were on Tor. It hands the file to your default PDF app, in my case Chrome. Now the document is open outside the tunnel. Click one link inside it, like a "verify access" button, and that page loads in Chrome too. Your real IP, your city, your internet provider, all exposed, with nothing protecting you. It gets worse. Look at your taskbar. Outlook, Spotify, Steam, all signed in as you, from the same address, in the same second. Nobody hacked you. You ran clear net and dark net on the same machine, so anyone can lay the two side by side. That is the correlation technique. The free fix: make Tor Browser open your PDFs instead of Chrome. Settings, Default apps, search .pdf, swap it to Tor Browser. Now PDFs open inside the tunnel. But no setting stops your other apps from leaking your IP in the background. Not on an operating system built to collect your data. That is what the Zero Trace Pen is for. It boots its own system from RAM, so the Windows drive never runs. Everything routes through Tor at the system level, and documents open in anonymous viewers inside the same encrypted tunnel they came through. And if someone is at your door, pull it out. Everything purges instantly. Nothing left to recover.
