They target the person who tries to get along with everyone, avoids confrontation, gives people the benefit of the doubt, and keeps making excuses for their behavior. But don’t confuse someone’s kindness with permission to disrespect them. Workplace bullies can take advantage of people who just want to do their jobs and keep the peace. You can be a good coworker, a team player, and an understanding person without tolerating bullying, backhanded comments, exclusion, or disrespect. I went into a new job and immediately found out there was super drama about me being hired. I was treated ok at the beginning and then it changed. At first I dealt with it, then started calling it out. It became a bigger issue and I looked like the problem because the person made excuses and lied, saying there was no issue. I asked for an accommodation and was denied. So I quit on the spot.
