One month ago today I hopped on a plane to hurry home to my husband as fast as I could, the day after arriving in South America. I was drained from the prior days travel, little sleep worrying about my husband and if I’d be able to get a flight home the next day, but I made it. The past month has been one of the hardest stretches we’ve walked through as a family. My husband’s accident changed our whole rhythm overnight. Seven broken ribs, a fractured spine and a broken collarbone set us on a path we never expected, and everything in our world shifted at once. My days have been packed. Managing meds. Doctors. Second opinions. Keeping track of pain levels. Helping him change bandages. Helping him shower. Helping him get out of the chair. Watching him struggle through pain that hits a level I can’t fix, and most don’t see. Nights have been just as heavy. Sleeping on the RV couch for weeks. Barely sleeping at all. Getting up through the night for meds and checking on him. Listening for every movement. It wears you down in a way you can’t explain until you’ve lived it. And then there’s RV life in the middle of winter. Getting the camper ready for the cold. Digging wasp nests out of the furnace exhaust. Making kerosene runs. Running heaters. Thawing frozen pipes. Keeping everything functioning best I can. My time has been pulled thin. My energy has been stretched. I’ve still shown up where I can, but every single thing has taken more effort than normal. When you’re caring for someone you love, your own needs get pushed to the bottom of the list. This month has been physically and mentally exhausting. It has stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. But we’re moving forward one day at a time. Healing is slow, but it’s happening. And I’m grateful for the prayers, the check-ins and every small bit of support. It has helped more than people know. #rvlife #camperlife
