RTC Orlando was awesome! We should have kept it. But those Illinois politicians had more pull at the BRAC committee. But Orlando provided the Best climate conditions for training

😂😂😂 I did boot camp in Orlando in June/july. We had red flags for days we weren’t allowed to run because of the heat. Out company commanders ignored them and we ran anyways. It was the best of times lol.

I went in the other direction. First night in boot camp there was a subzero wind blowing in off of Lake Michigan that cut all the way through you but 8 weeks later, at graduation, the heat index was near 100. Great Lakes Memories...

I went there for basic in 81 from the Chicago in late September and we were get snow flurries, then I walked out of terminal to get in the van to take us RTC and thought I was going to die, I still had my winter coat on and it must have been 80 degrees out side with 80 percent humidity. 😵💫

Pittsburgh to Orlando USN boot camp 1994. Shock of shocks. Then off to school in Great Lakes where snow was still knee high. Like what had I done lol

Sounds about right. Only went there for NAVET training when I came back into the Navy in 1990. (Old timer here) Also met my future wife there. They sent me to Great Lakes Illinois for Boot Camp back in 1982, started August 15, and it was also humid, mid-west humid, by the time we graduated though in October, it was freezing cold, and that wind would blow right off of Lake Michigan, I tell you that was something else.

Aug 01, 1988 Great Lakes, hotter than the devils ass and then on to MM A school and here comes winter. Coming from Miami , Fl, what a change .

Great Lakes… blizzard of 2014/2015.. hip deep snow. Several broken backs/legs/arm from slipping on ice.. would build snow up all around the smoke pits to make igloos to block the -20° air out. The buildings would freeze 2-3 INSIDE the building.. water in your eyes and nose would freeze
