The facts behind this video (official sources)
✅ Home Office plan (2 Nov 2026): care workers who came or switched before May 2025 can keep the 5-year route to ILR, if they met their visa conditions and earned at least £25,000 a year.
✅ Current ILR rules (GOV.UK, Appendix Skilled Worker): when you apply for ILR, it's your PRESENT pay that counts, not the rate when you arrived. Your sponsor must confirm you're paid, and will be paid for the foreseeable future, at least £25,000 (plus the going rate) as a care worker. The Home Office checks this with HMRC.
✅ Only guaranteed basic pay counts. Overtime and bonuses don't, even though they're taxed. Hourly pay counts for up to 48 hours a week.
✅ National Living Wage: £12.71/hr from April 2026 (GOV.UK).
37.5 hrs a week = £24,785 a year (£215 short of £25,000)
40 hrs a week = £26,437
42 hrs a week = £27,759
(hourly rate × weekly hours × 52)
❓ Not published yet: exactly how the £25,000 will be counted under the new earned settlement rules, and whether overtime will count. Changes are expected from December 2026 and through 2027. Until then, today's rules apply.
