What didn't fit in the video: The city file to watch is 260949. It changes the land-use plan on these 23.65 acres from low-density residential to mixed use, and it only takes effect if Phillips Edison buys the land by 2028. Phillips Edison is one of Kroger's biggest landlords, and Kroger owns Dillons. The plan asks for two exceptions to KC code: brighter lights under the gas canopy than code allows, and a grocery store bigger than that zoning normally allows. If you live nearby, those are the two things worth speaking up on, for or against. Both meetings are open to the public. Plan Commission is November 3rd. Council committee is November 10th. Why Dillons wants this corner: about 24,000 cars a day go by on 291, per MoDOT. Heads up: MoDOT also plans to widen 291 from Overton to just past 104th, with construction targeted for spring 2028. Fun one: Dillons numbers its plans. Twin Creeks is 153, Shoal Creek is 155, and this one is 162. Want the next one before everybody else? My weekly newsletter is at the link in my bio.

Laika’s art director says he worked every day for six years on Wildwood, and not a single thing in it was made with AI. Matt Maldonado helped bring more than 130 unique sets and over 230 practical puppets to life for Laika’s new stop motion film, which he calls one of the most ambitious ever made. One shot of Septima the rat biting on a rope looked simple on the storyboard, but the rope alone took almost a year to develop. He says it’s all the little creative decisions along the way that make it special, and that the human touch in everything they build by hand is worth protecting. (via @laikastudios) #Pubity
