China's system is a combination of meritocracy and democracy, leadership via election. The intention is to reduce ineffectiveness and corruption. To serve is the main drive. Most politicians choose the path for self enrichment.

I much prefer the way leaders in China grow. they start at the bottom and earn every promotion through tangible results. Here in Australia, it feels like some get top jobs and big pay packets mostly on personality and speeches, with very little to show in terms of real achievements
