@colangelocounseling: One of the biggest things I work on with my OCD clients is learning that you don’t have to respond to every thought your brain produces. I know that sounds simple, but when a thought feels scary, urgent, or completely against your values, the urge to figure it out can be REALLY strong. The goal isn’t to convince yourself the thought isn’t true or make the anxiety disappear. It’s learning to let the thought exist without engaging in the compulsions that keep it going! I’m a therapist who specializes in OCD, and I love sharing psychoeducation that makes OCD and its treatment easier to understand. Follow along to learn more about OCD, ERP, and other mental health topics. If you have a general question, feel free to leave it in the comments. I’ll do my best to answer it or turn it into a future post! Disclaimer: Everything I share here is general psychoeducation, not personalized therapeutic advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Social media cannot account for your full history, needs, or circumstances, and interacting with my content does not establish a therapist-client relationship. These posts are not a replacement for working directly with a qualified mental health professional. #ocd #ocdawareness #ocdrecovery #ocdcheck #ocdtok
