The towers are timber frames with no nails — all jointed, rebuilt by the village whenever it wears out. Same for the covered bridges: the roofs are there because it rains a lot, not for decoration. It's a living village. Grandmothers dye cloth in the lanes, kids play around the drum towers, and someone is always drying chillies on a wooden balcony.
