@shtiebelshorts: A l’chaim before Musaf? The amount—and how it affects you—matter. This short explains the distinctions between drinking before Shemoneh Esrei, a tefillah that remains valid after the fact, and a state in which a person cannot daven. A reminder to approach tefillah with clarity and respect. #ShtiebelShorts #Tefillah #Musaf #Halacha #TheEnglewoodShtiebel
Baruch HaShem, I personally have asked my Rebbe the question of whether one can have a shot or two of whiskey before duchaning. His answer was “yes” as long as it is not grape based. Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Baron Z”TL (a Telz rabbi who attended Telz Yeshiva in Europe before the war and escaped through Asia and learned/taught in Cleveland) explained that both “Yayin” and “Shaychar” describe grape based drinks and should be avoided before duchaning however if I had to have a drink before duchaning I should only have whiskey. Fortunate to have had my Rav’s psak before stumbling onto this.
