@animewarts0505: It's difficult to explain when it started. There wasn't one particular morning when everything suddenly felt different. No big event, no goodbye, no moment that could be pointed at and blamed. It happened gradually. The things that used to be enjoyable became less interesting. Old hobbies were left unfinished. Messages became shorter. Even conversations with people who had been around for years started feeling a little unfamiliar. And somewhere in between work, studying, responsibilities, and trying to keep everything together, a person stopped paying attention to themselves. They still wake up, get dressed, go where they're supposed to go, answer when someone speaks to them. From the outside, life looks pretty normal. But sometimes, on the way home, there's this strange feeling that something is missing. Not someone. Something. They can't remember the last time they were genuinely excited about an ordinary day. They don't know what music they would choose if nobody else were around. Someone asks what they want to do, and the answer is usually, "I don't mind." It's not that they have no preferences. They've just become so used to adjusting to everything that they've forgotten to ask themselves what they actually like. And that's a rather uncomfortable thing to notice. There are old photos where they look happier, although nobody knows what was happening behind the camera. There are saved songs they haven't played in years, unfinished drawings, games they used to spend entire evenings playing. Sometimes they open something from the past, look at it for a minute, and close it again. A strange thought appears: Was that really me? Maybe it was. Maybe that person is still somewhere underneath all the habits, worries, and things that had to be done. It's easy to say that someone should just find themselves again. As if there's a hidden version of them waiting in some distant place, ready to be discovered. But what if there's nothing to find? What if they simply need to start making little choices for themselves again? Listen to music they actually enjoy. Wear something because they like it. Spend an evening drawing badly after months away from it. Say no when they don't want to go somewhere. Admit that they miss someone instead of pretending they don't care. Nothing dramatic. And maybe the first few attempts will feel awkward. Even enjoying something can feel unfamiliar after a long time of doing everything out of obligation. That's alright. People change. The person from five years ago isn't necessarily someone who needs to be brought back. There are things worth leaving behind, too. But changing doesn't mean having to become a stranger to yourself. And perhaps one evening, without any big realization, something will feel familiar again. A song. A hobby. A stupid joke that still makes them laugh. For once, they won't be thinking about who they used to be or who they're supposed to become. They'll just be themselves for a little while. Maybe that's a good place to start. 🤍
