@leahshomestead: WE FOUND MEAT RABBITS IN KENYA! 🇰🇪🐇 My husband’s mom sent us pictures of some rabbits they’ve found, but now we have TWO problems to figure out! First, not every rabbit makes a good meat rabbit! We want rabbits that grow quickly, reproduce well, and efficiently turn feed into meat. Second, we only have THREE MONTHS in Kenya! I don’t want to spend that entire time waiting for young rabbits to reach breeding age. I want to experiment with raising meat rabbits in Kenya, from breeding and feeding to seeing how well they grow in a completely different environment! These look like they could be local mixed-breed rabbits, but it’s hard to know exactly what they are from pictures. I’m excited to see if we can make this work! #MeatRabbits #Homesteading #LifeInKenya

You said you’re only gonna be there for three months. Is it even worth setting up rabbits for such short amount of time?

Are you planning to bring them back with you? Because you know rabbits are pregnant for 30 days, so if you breed as soon as you get there, by the time they have babies you only have 2 months to grow and butcher them. It doesn’t seem like that’s enough time.

if you're only there for a short time wouldn't you be better off buying ready to butcher rabbits instead of trying to grow your own?

The breeds we have are in the UNITED STATES. Even if you look at a new zealand in the UK it is drastically different than the ones we have here.
So no, they're not new zealand or Chinchilla. because Africa doesn't have new zealands or standard chinchilla.

She said she can’t wait for them to start breeding so I’m guessing she wants young rabbits that grow quickly
