His statements are so vague, inconsistent, and contradictory. It seems he expected her to spend the next 20 years pining for him and waiting around, even though he never genuinely wanted her in the first place. But now that she’s moved on with his friend, suddenly she’s the one who got away, the one who truly matters. Not exactly a flattering reflection of his character, and I think he knows that himself.
