I actually really like the gun in her design. Most of her kit it’s defensive-leaning, and having her main damage output tied to her gun invokes the feeling that violence isn’t something natural to her.

I would say that the ivy that's still on here is there, because she's constantly making it grow. Like with kudzu connection, which makes extra vines grow.

I think the gun thing can be chocked up to the fact that she was fighting a crime syndicate, and it probably goes to show that you can’t really rely on magic for everything. That being said, characters like Infernus exist and I can absolutely see Ivy using something like a bullet seed esque attack.

I love that she's a killer, she's friendly and kind and sweet but she doesn't convince her adversaries to give up their life of crime, they want to kill her and she is perfectly fine killing them in return

I like to think she picked up the gun after realizing that she couldn’t just stop the mobsters with her powers alone. Since she’s a new being, she probably has an incorrect and simplistic understanding of death.

It is not weird at all that any of the characters use guns, in fact, characters that don't use guns stick out the most because that's the whole schtick of deadlock. It started out as an occult noir that gradually evolved into an Occult Pulp/Noir-esque setting where guns are very much commonplace and serve to ground the characters to a somewhat achievable realism. Another factor is that the guns are actually part of the design themselves: You wouldn't recognize Silver, Abrams or Venator without theirs because of it. Ivy is probably one of the characters where thematically, her gun is part of her core elements as a character, given that she used it to drive off the mendoza (A cartel that operated in spanish harlem). The game's setting, while fantastical, is supposed to be gritty. People are going to bring guns to what everyone assumes is going to be a gun fight, even characters are surprised others don't bring guns to it.

I actually really quite like that many characters use guns alongside their supernatural abilities. it's somewhat similar to the trope in anime where guns are just that lethal that they are valid contenders against supernatural abilities but in this case they are the "easy" option for somebody maybe using their abilities takes it out of them stamina wise, maybe their abilities don't lend themselves to a basic attack pattern etc so they pull out the gat
