@hrshark_: I wanted to grow my income as quickly as possible. Financial freedom was always the goal. Spending 10–15 years slowly working my way up with no real plan wasn’t an option for me. So I stopped leaving my career to chance and started making deliberate moves. Effort mattered. It was the baseline. But it was never going to be enough by itself. Here’s what I’d do again if I were starting from scratch: 1. Make reliability your reputation Do what you said you’d do, when you said you’d do it. Consistent people earn trust, and trust is what gets you handed the next big opportunity. 2. Go looking for the hard feedback “How am I doing?” won’t get you far. Ask “What’s really keeping me from the next level?” Then do something about it. 3. Think bigger than your job description Don’t stop at the work assigned to you. Get curious about what your manager and leadership are trying to solve, and help solve it. 4. Find a sponsor, not just a mentor A mentor gives you advice. A sponsor says your name in the rooms you’re not in. Build real relationships with leaders who’ve seen your work and will push for you when promotions are decided. 5. Follow the revenue Know how your company makes money. The closer you are to revenue, customers or big cost savings, the easier it is to show what you’re worth (Sales and Consulting are good examples). 6. Choose runway over titles Some roles give you more scope, more revenue exposure and more decision-making power. Pick roles for their long-term upside, not the title on the door. If you want to grow your career and your paycheck, be intentional about it. Save this and choose one thing to work on this week.
