Poenan :
You never mentioned that the incumbent, Dan Sullivan was from Ohio and he was recruited to run in Alaska because there was a popular mayor of Anchorage and hoped people thought they were the same.

I completely agree with Amy. Good journalism takes responsibility for such things as timing.

Im from Alaska read the article after it bringing brought to my attention by another Alaskan saying quote “I don’t know if Mary can recover from this” and it was one sided. I subscribe to the NYT and am going to cancel my subscription over this.

Aside from being one sided the story had almost no context about ranked choice voting (which eliminates any consequence of similar names candidates). Any effect of this scheme would have only been relevant in the "jungle" primary, not the election.

Treating it like some bombshell was what was irresponsible. It was Hillary's emails all over again, although I'm willing to bet you would defend that too.

Was there an investigation into prisoner Eric Hafner being on the ticket as a democrat? He actually got 15k votes

I’m in Washington state and when voting for our governor we had to pick between 3 people with the same name and it’s known a conservative donor paid the fees for the other two to run in the election

You are not seriously suggesting that the New York Times cover up stories, even temporarily, to benefit a political party. Like what are we doing here?

Not to mention the whole story was based on a disgruntled ex-campaign worker.

Why did you leave off the fact alaska has ranked choice voting which makes it a moot point?

Kyle Grantham :
There’s no confusion to be sown, the incumbent is listed as such on the ballot and with ranked choice voting, you simply vote for both of them. The strategy is implemented to force your opponent to waste time and resources worrying about it.

David Eastman was just quoted to say he was approached by Zane to run. So, he didn’t have the same name as Sullivan. There must be others that Zane tried to recruit.
