@shalom.world.news: Pope Leo XIV has announced the theme for the 2027 World Day of the Sick: “They lowered him on the stretcher in front of Jesus: The role of the community in caring for every person.” The theme for the 35th World Day of the Sick, slated to be celebrated on 11 February 2027, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes, highlights the role of Christian communities and civil society in caring for the sick, the elderly, and those who suffer. The theme is inspired by a biblical moment in the Gospel of Luke, where we read the incident when a paralytic was brought to Jesus by a group of people who, overcoming the obstacles before them, lowered him through the roof so he could be healed. Announcing the theme for the Pope in a statement, The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development said: “Every Christian community, together with civil society, is called to attend to the weakness and suffering of others.” The statement also stated that in the Gospel passage, community members join together to bring the one who is suffering to the source of physical and spiritual healing.
