A CAN-DO ATTITUDE THAT’S MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN NYC! What happens when you combine architecture, engineering, creativity, and thousands of cans of food? You get CANSTRUCTION NYC — where incredible works of art are built one can at a time, all for a meaningful cause! But CANSTRUCTION is more than just an impressive design competition. It has a history rooted right here in New York City! ✨ A LITTLE HISTORY: Founded in 1992 by Cheri Melillo and her colleagues at the Society for Design Administration (SDA) New York Chapter, CANSTRUCTION began with a simple but powerful idea: bring architects, engineers, and construction professionals together through friendly competition while making a difference in the fight against hunger. What started as a creative way to turn canned goods into architectural masterpieces has grown into an international movement, bringing communities together to support hunger relief. ❤️ THE IMPACT: Today, CANSTRUCTION NYC challenges teams of talented architects, engineers, and contractors to transform thousands of unopened cans into larger-than-life sculptures. After the exhibition, the canned food is donated to City Harvest, helping feed New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity. It’s where innovation meets compassion, and where art becomes a force for good. Because at CANSTRUCTION, we’re not just building sculptures, we’re building awareness, supporting our communities, and helping create a world without hunger. It was an honor to be a judge this year!
