@metaphysiko: Dude, why are you so scared of math class? I used to think it was because I was bad at math. Then something happened during my sophomore year that made me stop going to class altogether. It started with my teacher, Mr. Harris. He was an older guy. Quiet. Strict about attendance. Every day, he wrote the date on the board and started class with five problems. Nothing unusual. Until one Monday, he handed back a test I hadn’t taken. There was a grade written at the top. 100%. I thought it was a mistake. I hadn’t even been there the previous Friday. When I asked him about it, he looked confused. “You were here,” he said. “You finished before everyone else.” I laughed because I thought he was joking. He didn’t laugh. The next day, I came into class early and noticed something strange. There were six desks in the back row. Our class only had five students sitting back there. I counted them twice. Five students. Six desks. I asked my friend Tyler why there was an extra desk. He looked at me and said, “What extra desk?” I pointed right at it. He stared at the empty space. Then he whispered, “Don’t count the desks.” I thought he was messing with me. That afternoon, Mr. Harris gave us another worksheet. Five problems. But when I looked down, there were six. The last one was written in handwriting I didn’t recognize. What is the answer when nobody is left? I showed Tyler. His face went completely white. He folded the paper and told me not to answer it. I threw it away after class. The next morning, Mr. Harris was already waiting at the door. He looked at me and said, “You didn’t finish your homework.” I told him I hadn’t been assigned any. He opened his gradebook. There was a new assignment under my name. Question 6: 0/1. That was when I noticed something. Every student in the class had a grade beside their name. Except one. There was a name at the bottom I had never seen before. My name. But the grade beside it said: Absent. 14 days. I told the office. They checked the attendance records and said I had been present every day. Then they pulled up an old class photo. Mr. Harris was standing in the middle. Everyone was smiling. Except there was a student sitting in the back row. It was me. The problem was, the photo had been taken three years before I started attending that school. I stopped going to math after that. A week later, Tyler texted me. He said Mr. Harris had given the class another worksheet. Five problems. But this time, the sixth desk wasn’t empty. Someone was sitting in it. And apparently, Mr. Harris told the class not to worry. He said I was finally catching up. Then Tyler sent me a picture of the worksheet. At the bottom, underneath Question 6, was a new question. Who should take your place when you’re gone? My phone buzzed again. It was a message from Mr. Harris. “Don’t forget class tomorrow.” Then another message came through. “You’re sitting in the back row now.” @Johan #scarystories #scary #creepystorytime #horrortok #captionstory
