@bbcnews: Sir Mark Rowley, the head of the Metropolitan Police, is proposing eight to 10 regional police forces, supported by hundreds of local policing commands and a new national force, in what would be the biggest overhaul of policing since the 1960s. #Police #Policing #England #Wales #Crime #SirMarkRowley #BBCNews
Have a look at Police Scotland and see why this model doesn't work.

I’ve been saying this for years. This would save so much money and make policing easier. Same uniforms. Same systems for sharing information. Same cars, etc etc. however I also believe that policing is failing because of the lack of officers for the large areas that they cover. That needs to be sorted.

It needs a proper restructure, just like the NHS. There is no template and each one is slightly different. I think a military style structure would work as a national framework (to be clear - not advocating for military police/NHS organisations, just borrowing its structure)

I imagine it’s the time spent bailing out other agencies not carrying their weight

I'd argue that he mainly sees it as a way to secure more funding for the met . lots of holes in the proposals and the idea of regional forces with strengthened neighbourhood policing is really unicorn territory

Smityy Werbenjagermanjensen :
When you centralise everything, the trouble arises when smaller rural force’s crimes are pushed to the back of the waiting list as they are deemed less of a priority to crimes committed in major cities. This has already been evidenced when W.Yorks and N.Yorks merged their forensic units. The waiting times for forensic results increased massively for N.Yorks.

We know what will happen, across the area of 100 miles the amount of officers on paper look great, but in reality numbers will drop. Funding will become centralised and drop.
