@yacht_buoy: She draws just 0.8 of a metre and she is designed to take the ground, yet this aluminium catamaran is built to Category A for offshore passages. This is hull 2 of the Archipelago 47, a British-built hybrid explorer catamaran, and I was invited aboard for an exclusive first look in the final stages of her fit-out. She was built on the Isle of Wight by Archipelago Expedition Yachts, to designs drawn with the naval architects Chartwell Marine. She is a parallel hybrid, so her twin 440hp Yanmar diesels drive through electric motors fed by 80kWh of lithium batteries housed in her bridgedeck, which was lengthened by a full frame compared with hull 1 to make room for them. That gives her quiet electric running at the anchorage and diesel power for open water. With 4,000 litres of fuel, her builder quotes around 3,000 nautical miles at displacement speed, and she will do 24 knots when you need to cover ground. She also carries 1,000 litres of fresh water, with a watermaker and air conditioning on board. Every Archipelago interior is built to its owner's own needs, so no two are alike, and even the third cabin can be twin berths or a workshop. Hull 2 is a private commission for an American owner who plans to run her single-handed in European waters, and her builder puts her at about £1.5 million (approx. €1.8 million / $2.02 million). My full boat tour and write-up are out now in my free explorer yacht newsletter. Link in my bio. Would you take her up a creek, or across an ocean? Tell me below. #boattok #yachttok #explorercatamaran #hybridyacht #catamaran
